The Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Dom “Second Skin” is a special edition created by Ruinart. The famous Maison in Reims wanted to innovate and revolutionize the classic packaging of its bottles to better illustrate the terroir of origin of this refined excellence. The white color of the outer covering indeed recalls the purity of the deep chalk beds of the Côte des Blancs. This suggestion related to the soils is also emphasized by the slightly raised processing, which recalls the irregularity of limestone and chalk to the touch. Everything is taken care of in the smallest details to give value to a high-end cuvée, made with pure Chardonnay.
The Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Dom “Second Skin” is a Champagne that originates from a true institution in the Champagne world. The Maison Ruinart was founded at the beginning of the 1700s and after centuries is still at the top of production in the region, thanks to a savoir-faire that focuses on elegance and freshness. The cuvée is the result of Chardonnay grapes from the best plots of the Maison mainly classified as Grand Cru, with 90% coming from the Côte des Blancs, particularly from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Chouilly, and Cramant, and 10% from Sillery, in the Montagne de Reims area. The best bunches from each vineyard are pressed very gently and the must is vinified by single plot. After a few months of aging, the selection of base wines that will be part of the final blend takes place. The second fermentation occurs in the bottle according to the Champenoise Method with a aging on the lees of at least 10 years. The disgorgement is done manually, in a completely artisanal manner.
“Second Skin” Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Dom Ruinart is a Champagne of extraordinary purity and expressive finesse, which perfectly synthesizes the classic style of the Maison, which has contributed to making it famous worldwide. It presents itself in the glass with a bright and luminous golden yellow color, crossed by a perlage of remarkable finesse and delicate persistence. Elegant and refined, it expresses a bouquet characterized by scents of white flowers, hints of citrus peel, yellow-fleshed fruit, hints of bread crust, pastries, acacia honey, nuances of almond, dried fruit, toasted, spicy, and roasting notes. The sip is broad, rich, and creamy, persistent and complex. The finish is very long and pleasantly fresh.
