The Moscato Passito di Saracena from Cantine Viola is the fascinating expression of one of the first Italian enological excellences. In fact, Cantine Viola is located in the splendid municipality of Saracena, already known in the sixteenth century because the moscato produced here was a staple on the table of Pope Pius IV. It could be no other way for the land of the indigenous grape variety called moscatello di Saracena, which today the Viola family vinifies with passion and mastery, creating the amber nectar that fills the bottles of Moscato Passito di Saracena.
After teaching for almost forty years, Luigi Viola dedicated himself to what is his greatest passion: the environmental and cultural enhancement of the Saracena area, thanks to the recovery of the moscatello di Saracena grape. Thus, with dedication and love for his land, together with his family, Luigi Viola has been able to create a small miracle of Calabrian enology: the Moscato Passito di Saracena from Cantine Viola. Made from an ancient blend of guarnaccia, malvasia, and moscatello grapes, the moscato from Saracenais today a "cultural asset" of our country and soon a designation of origin.
The Moscato Passito di Saracena from Cantine Viola captivates with its golden color and brilliant coppery reflections and its expressive richness on the nose with warm, romantic, and seductive notes of candied orange, lavender, and glazed almonds; thus, in an instant, we find ourselves with a glass in hand and our elbow raised. At that moment, the palate is flooded with the enveloping nature of the Moscato Passito di Saracena, which, with honeyed harmony, tells us about the preciousness of the moscatello grapes. After this first moment, the tasting fully reveals the character of the Moscato Passito di Saracena, with a beautiful savory and fresh vein that awakens our sensory curiosity. Many define it as a meditation wine, and it seems true; after all, it is the "great-grandson" of a Pope's favorite wine!
