Refosco dal Penducolo Rosso is one of the flagship wines of the Villa de Puppi winery, born from the typical Friulian red grape variety capable of producing powerful and full-bodied expressions. Villa de Puppi's interpretation manages to combine the strength and expressiveness of the grape variety with freshness, elegance and aromatic cleanliness that distinguishes the winery's entire product range.
In Villa de Puppi's vineyards, located partly on the plain near Cividale and partly on the Colli Orientali, Refosco grapes are harvested late and subjected to strict selection. In the winery, fermentation, with maceration on the skins, takes place in steel tanks, with subsequent racking into new or second-passage oak barriques, where the wine continues to rest for a few months.
Villa de Puppi's Refosco dal Penducolo Rosso expresses on the nose a broad aromatic array consisting of notes of berries, ripe cherry, resin, pine needles and woody spices. The sip is soft, clean and expressive, with dense but evolved tannins, lively freshness and good sapidity. This is a wine that expresses, with simplicity, clarity and structure, the best characteristics of one of Friuli's most important grape varieties.
