Maison Lou Dumont - Koji Nakada

The Maison Lou Dumont was founded in 2000 from the meeting between Koji and Jae Hwa. He, a sommelier who had just arrived in France from Japan, met the woman who would become his wife during a French course. From that moment, a life project took shape that led them to move to Burgundy, where they chose Gevrey-Chambertin as the new home for their adventure. They immerse themselves with respect in one of the most iconic territories in the world and give life to a story of passion for wine that, year after year, allows the Maison to earn the esteem of their Burgundy colleagues. Koji and Jae Hwa have thus built a production model capable of growing without losing identity: today they vinify about thirty denominations, always maintaining an artisanal and territory-linked perspective.

For over twenty years, the production of Maison Lou Dumont is based on human relationships. Koji and Jae Hwa purchase grapes and musts from local winemakers, many of whom have become friends and historical partners, sharing a common vision of quality and respect for the raw material. Since 2012, the project has been enriched with the acquisition of the owned Domaine: 6 hectares cultivated organically, managed according to biodynamic practices, with soil work done by horses. Today, the Maison works through a virtuous combination of owned vineyards and carefully selected plots from trusted winemakers. Thus, a rigorous production method is born, in which the selection of grapes harvested directly by Koji represents the first and fundamental enological gesture.

Maison Lou Dumont vinifies the reds largely as whole clusters, to impart structure and complexity to the wines, with fermentations lasting 15 days accompanied by measured pump-overs. The aging then takes place in barrels for a period of 18 months, without the use of additives, except for a minimal dose of sulfur. These wines tell the story of Pinot Noir in its many nuances: fruit, delicate spices, and earthy hints that speak of 'terroir'. The Chardonnays, on the other hand, stand out for their finesse, balance, and freshness. The wines of Koji and Jae Hwa are sincere and profound expressions of Burgundy, capable of combining precision, technique and emotion.
